How Do You Smell Corruption? Clarence Thomas?
Mr. Associated Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States America, Mr.Justice Clarence Thomas, the man who is married to a Tea Party activist, who is a paid political lobbyist, seems to be -- seems to appear to be a little shady, a bit stone crooked, seems to be one of the billionaire and conservative causes pay barons, the Koch Brothers, Charles and David, hired hands. Yes, old Clarence, seems to be on the take?
Reports the New York Times -- 'Discrepancies in reports about an appearance by Justice Clarence Thomas at a political retreat for wealthy conservatives three years ago have prompted new questions. When questions were first raised about the retreat a court spokeswoman said Justice Thomas had made a 'brief drop-by' at the event. In his financial disclosure report for that year, however, Justice Thomas reported that (he was) reimbursed him an undisclosed amount for four days of 'transportation, meals and accommodations.' The event was organized by Charles and David Koch,Arn Pearson, a vice president at the advocacy group Common Cause, said the two statements appeared at odds. 'I don’t think the explanation they’ve given is credible,” Mr. Pearson said in an interview. He said that if Justice Thomas’s visit was a “four-day, all-expenses paid trip in sunny Palm Springs,” it should have been reported as a gift under federal law."
I think I smell the stench of corruption.
The Times reported that neither the Supreme Court, nor officials at the at Koch Industries would comment on the matter.
"Common Cause maintains that Justice Thomas should have disqualified himself from last year’s landmark campaign finance ruling in the Citizens United case, partly because of his ties to the Koch brothers. And said that past appearances at the Koch brothers’ retreat by Justice Thomas and Justice Antonin Scalia, along with the conservative political work of Justice Thomas’s wife, had created a possible perception of bias in hearing the case. The Citizens United decision, (which Scalia and Thomas) supported, freed corporations to engage in direct political spending with little public disclosure"
The decision enabled the Koch brothers to openly spend millions of corporate money and to buy seats in the Congress for their little Republican stooges, whom have pledged to support the special interests of the Koch brothers.
Last night on her show Rachel Maddow did a piece on Mr. Thomas's apparent conflict of interest. See the video.
