Lower Missouri River Wetlands Reserve Enhancement

Wetlands Reserve Enhancement Program

The Rainwater Basin Wetlands Reserve Enhancement Program

The Rainwater Basin Wetlands Reserve Enhancement Program (WREP) began in 2010.  NRCS partnered with Pheasants forever to offer incentives for landowners to restore wetlands on their property located within the Rainwater Basin wetland complex in south central Nebraska (see map above).  Through WREP, 960 acres of wetlands and upland habitats adjacent to, and within, pivot circles will be restored in the Rainwater Basin wetland complex. This project proposes restoring and protecting wetlands in an active agricultural landscape by allowing center pivots to cross wetlands, ensuring wetlands are compatible with the agriculture production in this region.

The Lower Missouri River Wetlands Reserve Enhancement Program

The Lower Missouri River Wetlands Reserve Enhancement Program (WREP) began in 2004.  NRCS partnered with other conservation organizations to offer incentives for landowners to restore wetlands on their property bordering the Missouri River from where the Missouri River enters Nebraska in Boyd County to where it exits the state south of Rulo, Neb.  Nebraska is the first state approved within NRCS for this program.  See the the information below for more details.
Landowners interested in this program, or other wetland opportunities, should contact their local NRCS office.
